Speaking of the most ancient and majestic shrines around Tokyo, I first think of Kashima-jingu Shrine, about 100 kilometers northeast of Tokyo. It is said to have been built in 660 BC. Its area is about 70 hectares. When Kasuga Taisha Shrine was built in Nara, it is said that Kashima-jingu Shrine sent deer who are messengers of God. You can reach Kashima-jingu Shrine in 90 minutes by bus from Tokyo Station, so why don't you visit this shrine?
